TULSA, Okla. -- Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. has acquired the Thrifty Car Rental franchise operation in San Jose, Calif., adding approximately 550 vehicles to DTG's corporate fleet.

The acquisition includes a location at San Jose International Airport's consolidated rental car facility, as well as a suburban location in Palo Alto. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"Ranked as the 23rd largest airport car rental market in the United States, San Jose is a welcome addition to our corporate operations," said Jay Foley, senior executive vice president of corporate operations.

The company had already operated the Dollar brand corporately at San Jose International.

The new purchase reflects DTG's growth strategy to acquire locations in the top 75 U.S. airports and operate them corporately. Since implementing that strategy in Dec. 2002, the company has acquired about 45 franchises in U.S. and Canadian markets and opened seven new Dollar or Thrifty greenfield locations. This strategy has added approximately 28,000 vehicles, on an annualized basis, to the corporate rental fleet.
