CHESTER, Va. -– Enterprise Rent-A-Car has acquired some of the assets of Autorent, an independent car rental company in Virginia.

Enterprise began serving customers in five former Autorent storefronts on April 2, said Christine Conrad, Enterprise's assistant vice president of corporate communications. The company also purchased some of Autorent's fleet, she added.

At the time of the purchase, Autorent had eight locations. The purchase price wasn't disclosed. The Autorent stores not acquired by Enterprise have closed.

Autorent had more than 100 employees, said Autorent President Theodore A. Robertson.

H. Carter Myers started the rental operation in the mid-1960s as a department of Petersburg Motor Co. The busines was incorporated as Autorent in 1980.

Autorent had 10 stores until it closed two late last year.
