Tax Hike Proposed to Fund Denver Tourism Marketing

DENVER --- A Denver City Council committee is studying a plan that would raise car rental taxes 1% to fund local tourism marketing, the Rocky Mountain News reported.

The Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau proposed the tax in hopes of raising approximately $3 million each year for its tourism promotion efforts. The bureau's plan also calls for a 1% hotel tax hike to raise an additional $2.8 million annually.

If approved by the Council, the tax plan would go before local voters in November.

The Council's Economic Development Committee is evaluating the tax proposal.
