BOSTON--- Massachusetts State Rep. Demetrius Atsalis is backing a plan to impose a $10-per-transaction car rental tax in Barnstable, Mass. The tax would finance an upgrade of a wastewater treatment facility in Hyannis, according to the Cape Cod Times.

The cost of the sewage treatment plant upgrade is estimated at $6 million to $7 million. In promoting his tax plan, Atsalis has cited a similar tax that the Legislature passed in July on rental vehicles in Revere to pay for a new police and fire station, the newspaper reported.
