Average Gasoline Prices Hit New Record

The average retail price in the U.S. for regular gasoline increased by 6.2 cents to 261.2 cents per gallon, topping a new high each week for three straight weeks, according to the Energy Department’s Energy Information Administration.

That total is 72.8 cents higher than August 2004. Though the Rocky Mountain region has the lowest average regional price, its average has increased 10.6 cents to 254.6 cent per gallon, marking the largest jump in the country.

The most expensive region, the West Coast, saw prices swell 4.2 cents to 271.1 cents per gallon. California’s average price gained 3.4 cents to 275.0 per gallon., the report said.
