GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. --- The Kent County (Mich.) Aeronautics Board tacked a $3 daily surcharge onto car rentals at Gerald R. Ford International Airport to help pay for new car rental facilities and a $120 million parking structure, the Grand Rapids Press reported.

The rental fee went into effect Oct. 1. It is expected to bring in about $1.2 million a year and $15 million total before it expires when the project is paid off, likely in 2015, the report said.

The consolidated facility will house six rental companies. The new parking structure is one of the reasons for the move.
