SAN ANTONIO --- After expressing an interest in purchasing the Florida Marlins Major League Baseball Team, San Antonio city officials submitted a stadium-financing proposal that would rely, in part, on a voter-approved extension of a car rental tax.

The 5% levy increase, coupled with a hotel tax, was initially voted on and set up to finance the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs’ arena, the SBC Center, according to a report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

City officials told the newspaper that if an agreement is made between the Marlins and Bexar County, the tax measure would be intended for the November ballot.

The tax extension would cover $200 million of an estimated $300 million stadium, The Miami Herald reported.
