LAS VEGAS --- Driveitaway Inc., a provider of Web-based upstream remarketing programs for commercial fleet vehicles, has launched programs that are now available for the rental car sector.

Indianapolis-based Arelco Inc. and Steward Ventures Inc., of Phoenix, the two top licensees of National Car Rental and Alamo Rent-A-Car, are the first to offer their cars through the Driveitaway program.

Rental customers search for and buy end-of-service rental cars online through a branded Web site. The cars are also marketed to registered users from other Driveitaway clients and to selected institutional buyers nationwide. Through the same Web site, buyers can apply for financing and arrange transportation.

Upstream remarketing programs, as measured in corporate fleets, can bring prices down $2,000 from those seen on stickers at used car dealerships.

Rod Smith, president of Arelco, pointed to the recently announced capacity reductions by manufacturers and the resulting sale of risk vehicles as motivation for exploring this remarketing channel.

As the program gets underway, Driveitaway expects to be announcing other licensee partnerships in the near future, the company said.
