Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. said that it acquired the Thrifty Car Rental franchise in Phoenix from longtime franchisees Stuart and Laura Boykoff. Terms were not disclosed.

Jay Foley, senior executive vice president for Dollar Thrifty, said the acquisition is part of a corporate initiative to buy back Dollar Rent A Car and Thrifty Car Rental franchises in key airport markets.

It's a tack that is being taken by many other car-rental companies, particularly the larger ones such as Avis, Hertz and National.

Dollar Thrifty spokeswoman Terri Snow said the company earlier bought back most of its key Dollar Rent A Car locations, including the Phoenix franchise at Sky Harbor International Airport.

The acquisition includes a terminal location at the new consolidated rental-car facility at Sky Harbor, as well as two other locations.
