Car Rental Tax Proposed to Pay for Provo Facelift

Major renovations to downtown Provo, Utah will be paid for in part by car rental excise taxes, BYUNewsNet.com reports.

The city plans to build a performing arts center, conference center, boutique shops and a full-service hotel as well as create more commercial office space in an attempt to attract more visitors to downtown.

Director of redevelopment Paul Glauser told BYUNewsNet that property and sales taxes would not be raised to pay for the improvements. Rather, increased hotel, restaurant and car rental taxes would pay for them.
