The car rental facility at Southwest Florida International Airport was recently reopened after a report of a foul odor caused some to feel ill and prompted officials to evacuate customers and employees from the building.

During the 35-minute evacuation, the airport’s fire department tested air quality in the facility and the parking garage, both of which are separate from the main terminal.

Victoria Moreland, director of public relations for the Lee County Port Authority, said the fire department believes that exhaust fumes from the rental cars got into the facility’s ventilation system.
