New legislation in Cambridge, U.K. says that companies can now be prosecuted if they don’t manage their work related road safety adequately.

To help businesses reduce accidents, Cambridgeshire County Council’s Road Safety Team is offering free classes to local companies on how to manage their work-related road safety and understand the implications of the new law. The course assists them in writing their own work related road safety policies.

After attending a course, Cambridge Car and Van Rental has become the first company in the county to gain a certificate and have made a commitment to improve the safety of their employees who drive for work.

“At Cambridge Car and Van Rental we take safety very seriously and driving vehicles is a main part of our business,” says Debbie Buttress of Cambridge Car and Van Rental. By having a policy, we hope to make all staff more aware of the importance of road safety and consequently reduce the risk of accidents.” For more information, email jenny.stannard@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.
