Hertz Global Holdings Inc. is testing photographic equipment that will scan vehicles for damage before and after a rental, according to Bloomberg.com.
The equipment will take a high-resolution, digital image of a vehicle. Then, Hertz employees will compare the before and after photos for differences, as opposed to walking around a vehicle and marking any damages on a form.
Customers will sign a waiver acknowledging the damage checking process and be billed for any damages.
According to the report, the company loses as much as $170 million in damage payments a year.
Furthermore, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Frissora said that the photo system is part of a plan to use technology to improve customer service and increase efficiency.
