A 10.1 million project to expand the rental car facility at Tampa International Airport’s main terminal will launch construction later this year and is expected to be completed by July, according to Tampa Bay Online.

The project will expand the rental car facility by 15 to 20 percent and allow off-airport agencies Alamo and National to provide service from the terminal if they desire.

Airport director Louis Miller said six rental car companies operate from the main terminal. Patrons generally prefer that over taking a shuttle off the airport property to pick up a rental car, he added.

Also, among the airport’s 45 goals for the next fiscal year include an effort to focus on maintaining the current level of international passengers and on Latin American and Caribbean opportunities.
