Effective Jan.1, the sales tax for car rentals at Yampa Valley Regional Airport (YVRA) in Hayden, Colo. will be increased 3.5 percent, reports craigdailypress.com.

Hayden voters passed Referendum 2B on Nov. 3. With 55 percent of the vote—191 to 158—the tax, which has increased from 33 percent to 37 percent, is expected to bring in 143,500 in 2010 for the town of Hayden.

There was nothing in the ballot language that specified how the revenues would be spent.

Some rental agency owners are concerned that the passed measure will affect business, citing that the increase could lead to people taking other modes of transportation.

Additionally, voters also passed the measure to increase sales tax for nightly accommodations to 3.5 percent.
