The District of Columbia’s Zoning Commission gave preliminary approval that would allow car-sharing service Zipcar to legally park its cars in lots and alleyways, according to The Associated Press.

The city doesn’t allow commercial activity in residential neighborhoods, but local officials proposed the new rule for car sharing. Zipcar already pays to rent private spaces in neighborhoods around the city. The new rule allows Zipcar to continue its practice.

Zipcar is currently the only car-sharing service in Washington.
