A new agreement under negotiation would require rental car companies doing business at Southwest Florida International Airport to electronically submit monthly revenue reports that list individual transactions, according to the News-Press.

Lee County Port Authority in Florida is negotiating the new agreement, which would mark the first time rental agencies would have to meet such a requirement.

The Lee County Clerk of Courts' audit report issued July 29 stated that the detail provides airports another level of assurance that rental car agencies are abiding by the terms of their rental agreements.

The new requirement will be in addition to the monthly gross revenue reports historically used to validate monthly airport concession fees.

For the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2009, car rental companies paid the port authority $16.7 million. That was slightly up from $16.3 million, the previous year.
