A man that police says was driving a rental car 18 months after he was supposed to return it to an Avis Rent-A-Car location has been caught, according to the Daily Tribune.

Police in Ferndale, Calif., spotted a 2009 Toyota with an expired license plate and followed the car. Police said the car was rented in early 2009 but never returned to the rental car location.

After police caught him in a foot chase, the driver, James A. Anderson, 45, of Detroit, was charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless driving and trespassing. He was jailed on $1,500 bond.

Ferndale police said Anderson will likely be charged with felony larceny for failing to return the rental car.

Anderson is scheduled for a pretrial hearing in Ferndale court on Aug. 24.
