Enterprise Rent-A-Car will help Community Health and Care (NCHC) NHS Trust in the U.K. create a new transport policy based around travel options such as including Enterprise’s hourly rental, or car sharing, program, WeCar, according to Fleet World.

The program is being piloted with two WeCar vehicles at the Trust’s Norwich site. The vehicles can be used for any business-related travel.

Through WeCar, the Trust can get rid of its site-based pool car, reducing administrative and travel costs and lowering its carbon footprint. Trust employees will be discouraged from using their own vehicles for business travel, to reduce the cost, risk and emissions associated with this method of travel.

NCHC is the first NHS Trust to use WeCar, and the vehicles will go to employees who might otherwise use their own cars for short business trips in and around Norwich. Enterprise is also helping the Trust to create a more sustainable transport strategy for its employees

Rob Ingram, director of business rental at Enterprise, said the program gives NCHC employees in Norwich “easy access to two modern, low-emission cars rather than having to use their own private vehicles, which are often older and produce more CO2.” As well, the Trust no longer has to pay mileage reimbursement.

NHS is also encouraging employees to use public transport, bicycles and to even avoid travel altogether through teleconferencing.
