Halifax, Nova Scotia car-sharing service CarShareHFX is expanding its fleet after experiencing a 60% member increase over the last 12 months, according to The Chronicle Herald.

CarShareHFX will obtain seven additional cars, making it a 20-car fleet by this summer. Members pay an annual fee of about $39 and hourly rates that average about $5.95 an hour, plus additional fees.

CarShareHFX will continue to expand its fleet in the coming years, depending on uptake, Marco Viviani, development and public relations director for CarShareHFX partner Communauto, told the Herald.

CarShareHFX is also working with local businesses, property developers and governments to expand the service, the article states. Southwest Properties and Killam Properties have cars on site at their apartment buildings and have negotiated a discounted offer for their residents, while bike shop Cyclesmith uses CarShareHFX vehicles to transport their fleet of bicycles.
