In the United Kingdom, the Leeds-based car-sharing company City Car Club has announced that it plans to double its service in the city of York in 2012, according the The York Press. The article states that the company currently has eight Fiat 500s, and that it’s working with York’s city council to bring more vehicles to the area.

The hourly rental service is open to businesses, residents and city officials at an annual membership — as well as each trip’s hourly rate. The City Car Club works with businesses and local authorities, as it is in the city of York, to create staff travel plans and to incorporate City Car Club membership.

Founded in 2000, City Car Club is currently operating in 14 cities across the UK, including Leeds, Manchester, Bristol and London. The company reports that it has approximately 24,000 members and more than 550 vehicles
