According to AsiaOne.com, Singapore police issued a warning to prospective vehicle renters to be cautious of rental scams when purchasing packages during the holiday Hari Raya, due to the high number of car rental scam incidents last year from Aug. 27 to Sept. 1.

Customers are encouraged to follow these measures:

  1. Rent vehicles from reputable vehicle rental companies.
  2. Check with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority — the national regulator of business entities — to confirm that the car rental business is registered.
  3. Insist on documentation on car rental details such as the particulars of the parties involved.
  4. Request to view the vehicles and their log cards to verify their ownership.

The measures follow last year’s cases when 20 people were victims of car rental scams.
