General Motors reported that its fleet sales to commercial fleets are up 41% over last year, which is the 28th consecutive monthly increase, and that sales to state and local police agencies drove a 115% percent increase in sales to government entities. The company’s sales to rental fleets across the U.S., however, fell 41%.

The automaker added that it stated that sales to rental customers would be down in July because planned deliveries to those companies occurred earlier in the year when compared with 2011. In terms of retail sales, GM said total U.S. sales were down 6% when compared with a year ago, and sales to retail customers were down 3%.
