Zipcar Inc. finalized the integration of Barcelona-based car sharing service Avancar into its fleet, according to a company announcement on Oct. 17.

The service will operate as "Avancar, a Zipcar company" giving members access to more vehicles in Barcelona.

Zipcar will be able to use its new global technology platform that supports multi-language capabilities with the integrated service. Barcelona members with smartphones will be able to download Zipcar mobile applications in both Catalan and Spanish to make reservations, lock, unlock and locate the vehicles.

Zipcar purchased a majority ownership interest in Avancar in February 2012, following the initial equity investment in December 2009.

Zipcar is looking to further expand its growth in Europe with this integration, which follows the acquisition of CarSharing.at in Vienna, Austria.
