Enterprise Holdings reported on Nov. 9 that the U.S. Navy will retire next month the last remaining USS Enterprise, a historic U.S. Navy ship important to the inception of the rental car company.

Enterprise founder and U.S. Navy veteran Jack Taylor named the company after the USS Enterprise, the ship on which he served as a fighter pilot during his World War II service.

The seventh of eight U.S. Navy ships named Enterprise is widely recognized as one of the most decorated warships in U.S. military history. It is also the nation’s oldest active-duty warship and the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in its fleet.

In line with its commitment to the military, Enterprise plans to hire more than 1,500 veterans and active/inactive reservists by the end of 2012.
