The Hermosa Beach Patch reported Jan. 9 the Hermosa Beach City Council approved a resolution for a regional car sharing program on Jan. 8.

Under the program, car2go would make 350 smart fortwo vehicles available for rent in nine South Bay cities with rates starting at 39 cents per minute or $13.99 per hour.

South Bay Cities Coalition of Governments (SBCCOG) supports the resolution and said that South Bay residents typically only use their car for short trips or stay in the area, making car2go an ideal program. The program still needs to be approved by eight other cities to determine when and if car2go will officially launch in the South Bay.
