According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, the Indianapolis City-County Council passed in a 16-12 vote on Jan. 28 the proposed rental car tax increase.

The vote, which is pending approval from Mayor Greg Ballard, will increase the rental car tax countywide from 4% to 6%. In addition to the state sales tax and other local taxes, the taxes on rental cars would be total of 17%.

The tax increase, along with another tax that was also approved by the council on Jan. 28, will generate $6.7 million in revenue for the Indianapolis general fund.

Meeting minutes are not yet available as of this writing. See our last story on the tax increase here.
