Nicholson Named in Powerful Women in Business List

For the 11th consecutive year, Fortune has named Pam Nicholson, CEO and president of Enterprise Holdings, to its Most Powerful Women in Business List.

This year, Nicholson ranked No. 17 on the list, maintaining this position for the second year in a row.

Compiled by Fortune editors, the Most Powerful Women in Business List looks at four criteria: the size and importance of the woman’s business in the global economy, the health and direction of the business, the arc of the woman’s career, and social and cultural influence.

Fortune noted Nicholson’s role in expanding Enterprise Holdings both domestically and internationally. The company has increased its revenue each year under her leadership. For fiscal year 2017, Enterprise earned $22.3 billion. Enterprise has also grown its U.S. airport market share to 39% — compared to 33.5% in 2013 when Nicholson was appointed CEO, according to the company.

Currently, the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental, and Alamo Rent A Car brands operate in more than 90 countries and territories.

Nicholson joined Enterprise as a management trainee in 1981. In 1999, she was promoted to senior vice president of North American operations, named chief operating officer in 2003, appointed president in 2008, and then promoted to chief executive officer in 2013.
