Family Gets Full Refund After Rental Car Plunges Off Ferry
Fox Rent A Car was first reported to have refused a refund to a family whose rental car was bumped by another vehicle off the ferry boat. The company said it did not know at the time of the claim that the family was not at fault, according to the Orange County Register.
According to the Orange County Register, a tourist family that had rented a minivan from Fox Rent A Car was given a full refund after another vehicle accidently “bumped” the van off a ferry. Aboard a Balboa Island ferry in Newport Beach, Calif., the Taiwanese family was recovered safely from the vehicle.
It was originally reported that the family wasn’t going to receive a refund; however, communication issues had made the incident seem as though it was the fault of the renters. As soon as it came to Fox’s attention that the renters were not at fault, the family was issued a full refund.
A “storm” of angry comments were made online by Orange County Register readers after Fox’s earlier decision to not refund the family. As well, the Newport Beach Police Association volunteered to pay for a new rental car for the family while they completed the vacation. Fox Rent A Car stresses that it is investigating what happened in the claim and that family will owe “zero charges.”
