Hertz Ends Contract Agreement With Ryanair
Due to a contractual dispute, The Hertz Corp. has ended its car rental agreement with Ryanair. Ryanair is now seeking legal action against Hertz for breach of contract.

Despite lengthy discussions regarding a contractual dispute, The Hertz Corp. has said it ended its car rental agreement with Ryanair.
Hertz reassures customers that existing bookings will be fully honored and that future bookings can be made directly at the Hertz, Thrifty and Firefly websites.
"We have enjoyed many years of a successful relationship with Ryanair, but unfortunately we were not able to reach agreement with the airline over a significant contractual dispute in spite of considerable effort,” said Michel Taride, group president of Hertz International.
A feud occurred over Ryanair’s use of systems that allow tickets to be bought without using the carrier’s website, according to an article from The Telegraph.
Since April last year, Ryanair used global distribution services such as Travelport, which allows travel agents to directly access all of its fares. Therefore, tickets can be bought without going through the airline’s website, where Hertz’s services are advertised.
Hertz ended its contract with Ryanair on July 2, accusing the airlines of breach of contract, according to the report. Ryanair is now suing Hertz for abruptly ending the contract.
"The majority of Ryanair passengers who need car hire from the Hertz brands in July and August are already booked and confirmed,” said Taride. “Any customer who wishes to book car rental and enjoy great service at competitive rates can make arrangements directly with us. Customers can also modify existing bookings on the Ryanair website."
Ryanair is seeking legal action against Hertz for breach of contract, according to the report. In September 2013, the two companies extended Hertz’s contract until 2020.
"We are confident in our legal position and intend to pursue this matter vigorously through the courts," added Taride.
