As New Zealand loosens its COVID rules, the tourism market has seen tremendous growth, resulting in a shortage of reliable rental vehicles.

“We’ve seen a huge influx of bookings now that Covid-19 restrictions are lifting,” said James Hamish, owner of the Christchurch branch.

In turn, New Zealand Rent A Car has increased its fleet size to answer soaring demand.

Though the company did not specify how many vehicles were added, its founders noted New Zealand Rent A Car has over 1,000 rental vehicles from small hatchback cars to 12 seater minibusses in its fleet. Some branches also offer specialty vehicles, including sports cars, furniture trucks, and a range of four-wheel-drive vehicles. Most branches offer budget backpacker vehicles available for longer-term hires at excellent rates as well.

“We maintain all of our hire vehicles to a high Certificate of Fitness standard. If you have a mechanical breakdown not caused through your negligence, our roadside assistance program will ensure you are taken care of,” NZRAC representatives said.

According to Hamish, the company has also expanded into environmentally friendly hybrid vehicles. NZRAC reportedly replaces 20% of its fleet each year to ensure it always offers high-quality rental vehicles.
