Kent State University is now the second public university in Northeast Ohio to provide Zipcar’s car-sharing service, according to a report by the Akron Beacon Journal. Last week, the car-sharing service brought four vehicles to the Kent campus for students, faculty and staff to rent.

“We’re trying to give people as many transportation options as possible,” Melanie Knowles, KSU’s sustainability manager, told the Akron Beacon Journal. “It’s expensive to bring a car to campus, and this may mean they don’t have to bring one.”

Students at Kent State can rent two Ford Focuses for $7.50 per hour or a Toyota Prius and Kia Soul for $8.50 per hour (or $69 per day), says the report. The yearly fee for first-time members is $25 and then $35 in following years.

Zipcar currently operates at other Ohio campuses, including the University of Cincinnati and Cleveland State.
