TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Gov. Jeb Bush has vetoed a bill that would have allowed counties to double a daily $2 surcharge on car rentals, reported The Associated Press. He also vetoed two transportation measures related to the rental car fee legislation.

Although the rental fee bill contained provisions addressing rising transportation costs and competition among road contractors, the governor wrote in his veto measure that the provision giving counties the option to impose a $2 per day tax on rental cars could not be overlooked.

“The great preponderance of the tax will be paid for by people who don’t have a chance to vote on it,” Bush said. “While I do support the notion that we need increased transportation dollars, and I do support voter approval of taxes at the local level, this was a tax without representation.”
