car2go North America LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler North America Corp., celebrated its 1-year anniversary of electric vehicle car sharing in San Diego on Nov. 29.
At the celebratory event car2go unveiled a new EV charging depot in the East Village that features 30 BLINK charging stations. The car2go Fleet Team will be able to charge the vehicles to increase the availability of cars during off-peak hours.
Currently, there are roughly 45 public EV charging stations located within the car2go Home Area, but the new car2go Charging Depot will increase the number to nearly 75.
Since the launch of the service in San Diego in 2011, more than 12,500 members have signed up to use the 300 car2go vehicles located throughout the city. car2go has grown from approximately 500 trips per week in 2011 to an average of 5,000 trips per week this year.
"In just one year, car2go members and the city of San Diego have embraced an entirely new form of mobility, our members have adapted their lifestyle to include a diverse mix of clean transportation options, and collectively they are truly setting an outstanding example to the rest of the world in terms of emissions-free mobility,” said car2go CEO and President Nicholas Cole.
