Peer-to-peer carsharing app Turo is returning to New York following a seven year absence due to insurance disputes, Bloomberg reports.
Beginning in January, Turo will allow listings in New York from members of the commercial host program — independent car rental companies that provide their own insurance and are registered with the state. Additionally, Turo is now allowed to advertise its platform, which hasn't happened since 2013.
In 2014, New York fined Turo, which was then known as RelayRides, $200,000 for false advertising and unlicensed insurance activity, among other violations.
Rental operators can now detect and act on speeding while vehicles are still on rent, thereby reducing fines, admin workload, vehicle wear, and safety risks.
