Avis Budget Group Inc. said Tuesday that it has received a request for additional information from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission regarding the company's potential acquisition of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc.

Avis Budget filed for antitrust approval in May and said it would make a potential bid for Dollar Thrifty that would be larger than the $1.2 billion in cash and stock offered by its rival, Hertz Global Holdings Inc.

Avis has not disclosed details about a potential bid, but said it continues to cooperate with the FTC on the matter.

Industry analysts caution that the FTC's second request should not be viewed as either leaning toward approval of or against the acquisition.
