MATS, LOUISVILLE – A 25th Anniversary package is commemorating the first offering of the Cummins Turbo Diesel engine in Ram pickup trucks in 1989, the engine maker says.

The upfit package is available on new model-year 2014 Heavy Duty pickups, and in a kit for installation on existing 2014s. It includes custom badges, floor mats, Katzkin leather interior and a Cummins red breather cover under the hood.

"Our 25-year partnership is a testament to the continued advancements of our products and the inherent dependability that our customers demand," said Dave Crompton, vice president of Cummins Engine Business. "We developed this package to offer our loyal customers a way to celebrate this milestone anniversary."

Enhancements to the original 5.9-liter (360-cubic-inch) inline-6 diesel over the years include increases in displacement to the current 6.7 liters (409 cubic inches), the move from a 12- to 24-valve cylinder head, introduction of full-authority electronic fuel systems, and the introduction of the VGT variable-geometry turbocharger with integrated exhaust braking.

During the same time period, Cummins has more than doubled the horsepower and torque from the original rating of 160 horsepower and 400 pound-feet to as much as 370 and 850, respectively.
