Uber has been granted a 15-month probationary license to continue operating in London, according to the Guardian.
Uber faced opposition when Transport for London (TfL) determined that the ride-hailing company was not fit to operate in the city. TfL raised issues regarding public safety, and said Uber did not have adequate procedures for reporting crimes and conducting background checks on drivers.
The Westminster magistrates court awarded the license after Uber's lawyers argued that the company made sweeping changes and instituted new management to comply with safety regulations, such as stricter reporting and driver screening practices.
TfL argued for a shorter license, citing Uber's history of resisting regulation during its first five years of operation.
