TULSA, Okla. -- Record 2003 revenues of $1.23 billion propelled Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group up 19 positions on the 2004 Fortune 1000 list released March 22.
"After just cracking the Fortune 1000 list for the first time in 2003, we are proud of our progress," said Gary Paxton, president and CEO. "This reflects the determination of our employees and the strength of our two brands to grow our company and deliver excellent results."
Dollar Thrifty made its debut last year as #999. Fortune magazine's annual review ranks America's elite, publicly owned businesses based on their revenues.
"Dollar Thrifty's achievement is all the more impressive because the travel industry has yet to recover from the impact of the Sept. 2001 terrorist attacks and economic recession," Paxton said. "We are extremely proud of the company's accomplishments and the success of our growth initiatives."
During 2003, the company acquired or opened locations in 28 major U.S. and Canadian markets. Dollar Thrifty's 2003 revenues were up 8.4% over 2002, and its total return to investors was 22.6%.
