The City of Seattle has installed 20 DC fast charging locations for plug-in electrified vehicles in the ReachNow car-sharing network that was funded by a $1.2 million grant from BMW, the automaker announced.
The investment adds 20 EV charging locations and 100 chargers, which would double the number of fast chargers in the city. The network also includes Level 2 chargers.
The new chargers are part of BMW's Light & Charge system, which turns existing streetlights into EV charging stations. Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo is the first location in North America to get a Light & Charge system.
The new EV charging infrastructure will allow BMW to expand its ReachNow car sharing service in the city. BMW i3 battery-electric vehicles make up 10% of the ReachNow fleet.
Each Light & Charge site will include one ChargePoint DC fast charger and two to four AC, Level 2 chargers. The chargers run on the ChargePoint network.
