Uber drivers and likely voters overwhelming support Uber's proposal to keep drivers as independent contractors while affording them some benefits and protections, according to a new survey.
The survey, which was backed by Uber, found that 82% of drivers and 76% of voters support Uber's plan. Furthermore, 85% of drivers surveyed said they would prefer to remain independent contractors and receive benefits rather than being classified as employees.
Overall, the survey found that drivers want to retain the flexibility of setting their own hours. It also shows that drivers desire more benefits and protections, such as health insurance and workers compensation.
