Police in Jacksonville, Fla., last week arrested seven people, including the ringleader, in connection with a car theft and bank fraud scheme that targeted luxury rental vehicles, News4Jax I-Team discovered.
The stolen vehicles — a brand-new Maserati, a Jaguar, a Porsche Cayenne, a Mercedes, a Land Rover Range Rover Sport, a Cadillac, and an Infiniti QX80 — are valued together at about $1.35 million. Most of the vehicles are still missing.
The heist ring reportedly began in Jacksonville, before spanning to other cities in Florida and Georgia. Members allegedly claimed they were renting the luxury vehicles for celebrities and music videos.
Ten other suspects are still being sought in connection with the case.
