The following is a pitch letter from the American Car Rental Association to its members regarding the group's annual Washington, D.C. Legislative Conference.
Change happens fast in the car rental industry, and it seems to happen almost every day. New advancements in technology continue to revolutionize the ways in which we can respond to consumer demand with new and compelling personal mobility solutions.
But the rapid advancement of technology brings challenges too. Right now, competitors in the car rental industry are grappling with questions surrounding how to protect customer privacy and data; how to maintain fleets without access to vehicle diagnostics; new competitors who choose to define themselves so as to avoid complying with regulations and potentially put customers in unsafe vehicles; and even the harsh reality that we must confront the potential use of rental vehicles as weapons against innocent civilians by terrorists.
These are just some of the important trends in our industry that are being looked at in various city and state legislatures, and by both houses of Congress in Washington, D.C. The American Car Rental Association, as always, will be in the vanguard, representing your interests as new laws are contemplated, or needed.
