Avis Budget Group has decided to outsource part of its operational duties in its corporate office located in Virginia Beach, according to a report by the Virginian-Pilot. Effective Aug. 1, this change will affect up to 150 employees out of the 520 staff members at the facility.
"The company decided to transfer responsibility for handling of its liability/vehicle damage claims function for North America to a third party that specializes in this field," John Barrows, an Avis Budget spokesman, stated in an email.
About a third of the affected workers are expected to continue handling company claims out of the same office, though as employees of the "outsource partner, at comparable levels of compensation and benefits," Barrows stated.
The Virginia Beach facility will continue to be the company’s headquarters for its North America “shared-services” organization, which includes the management of fleet vehicle titles and registration, fleet accounting and management of credit, according to the report.
Up to 30 of the other workers will be moved to open positions in Avis Budget’s shared-services operation, Barrows told the Virginian-Pilot. This leaves a job reduction of 70 to 90 positions.
