car2go will be stopping its carsharing service in Miami and Miami Beach as of March 1, primarily due to Florida’s car rental tax.
“While we believe Miami can benefit greatly from a service like car2go, Florida’s car rental tax doesn’t reflect the innovation we bring to the rental car sector, making Miami one of the most expensive cities in North America for one-way carsharing,” car2go said on its website.
car2go members will be able to still drive the carsharing smart fortwo vehicles in Miami and Miami Beach through Feb. 29.
“Since our launch in 2012, we have received incredible support from our members in Miami, as well as the broader Miami community — and for that we are incredibly grateful,” said the company.
Currently, car2go operates in 13 other North American cities, including Seattle, San Diego, New York City, Austin, Denver, Portland, Montreal and Vancouver.
