After a nationwide inspection on ride-hailing companies, China’s Ministry of Transport identified nine major problems in the country’s ride-hailing industry, including safety and public security risks, poor emergency management, product compliance, and illegal operation.
The inspection came as a result of two accounts of alleged rape and murder of passengers using the ride-hailing platform Didi Chuxing, which generated national outrage and a public apology from the company’s senior management.
Eight ride-hailing operators, including Didi, were a part of the on-site inspections launched earlier this month.
The ministry plans to schedule more inspections in the future, and is urging all companies to address the issues found in the inspection to promote the development of a healthier, more efficient ride-hailing industry.
