San Antonio International Airport held a groundbreaking ceremony last week for its $165.6 million, seven-story rental car facility. This 1.8-million-square-foot consolidated rental car and parking facility is expected to be completed in March 2018, according to a report by Airport World Magazine.
The new conrac facility will house up to 13 rental car companies in one centralized lobby, says the report. The conrac will also include a quick turnaround facility for fueling, vacuuming and washing as well as short-term public parking for airport passengers.
“Car rental customers are shuttled to rental agency locations, often inconveniencing or confusing them,” Frank Miller, aviation director, told Airport World Magazine. “The new conrac will be located a few steps from the terminals so customers will save time, and the need for shuttle service will be eliminated.”
The new rental center will be funded through a customer facility charge, paid by customers renting vehicles at the airport, according to the report.
