DriveNow, the joint venture carsharing service between the BMW Group and Sixt, started operating in Stockholm, Sweden on Oct. 20th, according to a Sixt report.

Customers will be able to rent 260 carsharing vehicles in a 50-square kilometer area of Stockholm. This includes the business districts of Solna and Sundbyberg and two airports (Stockholm Arlanda and Bromma).

The fleet includes BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the MINI hatchback, according to the report.

DriveNow plans to add the BMW X1, BMW 2 Series Convertible and the all-electric BMW i3 at a later date.

“Stockholm is one of the most progressive cities in Europe with a modern and open-minded population,” said Sebastian Hofelich, CEO of DriveNow. “Public transport is very well developed and the majority of Stockholm does not have a car, although there is a demand for individual mobility. These are ideal conditions for a concept like ours. We are therefore convinced that DriveNow will be very successful in Stockholm.”

Stockholm is DriveNow’s ninth city of operation in Europe. Currently, it has around 4,000 carsharing vehicles, says the report.
