Dubai's Road and Transportation Authority is partnering with ride-hailing firm Careem to launch a joint ride-hailing program for all taxis operating in the area, according to the Financial Times.
The partnership, which is set to launch in April, will be the world's first partnership between a government agency and a private ride-hailing app.
Careem will be managing the e-hailing systems and online payments for Dubai's nearly 11,000 taxis. Careem's existing ride-hailing service will continue as normal.
In the future, Careem officials said the venture could be expanded to inlcude other transportation methods like buses.
