Electric Carsharing Pilot Program to Launch in LA

Under the new pilot program set to launch in November,100 electric and hybrid cars will be available to Los Angeles residents in low-income neighborhoods. The program has been funded through a state grant.

A new pilot electric carsharing program is set to roll out in November to Los Angeles residents in low-income neighborhoods, according to a report by NBC 4 Los Angeles.

The $1.6 million Car Sharing and Mobility Options in Disadvantaged Communities Pilot Project will provide 100 electric and hybrid cars, as well as charging stations, for residents to use in South LA, Westlake District, Pico Union and Koreatown, according to the report.

Residents can either sign up for an annual membership or pay by the hour.

Funded by California’s Air Resources Board, the pilot program was launched as part of SB 1275 and SB 535 and authored by Sen. Kevin de León, according to the report.
